Question: Dear Fran,
My son and his wife asked me to spend Christmas with them, and she
informed me she and my son like to open their gifts to each other
alone on Christmas morning. To me, alone meant her parents and other
family members who live in town wouldn't be there. I was a guest in
their home, so I'd be able to watch them celebrate together, right?
Wrong!!!! I was "sent to my room" while they listened to music in
front of a cozy fire, laughing and talking as they opened their
gifts. When they were through, my daughter-in-law said, "You can
come out now!" Why did my son allow his mother to be treated like
this? It was not only a silly thing to do but very rude indeed.
HELP!!!

Answer: Dear Ho,
I can't believe you could use the word 'silly'. I think your son and
daughter-in-law need the help. I find their behavior rude and
ignorant. Do you happen to have any pets? If not, I'm sure a
neighbor or friend has a cat or dog. I would be sure to fill their
stockings with a special treat! And I mean FILL IT! Have a very
Happy New Year and don't visit any relatives.
